Since 2022, the Santa Monica First Responders Coalition has been engaging with the local community to strengthen communication, preparedness, and trust around public safety.
We are now formally organizing as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit to better inform and prepare Santa Monica residents on matters related to public safety, emergency services, and the future of our city.
As Santa Monica continues to grow, our community is facing major upcoming events, changes to the built environment, and increasing complexity in emergency response due to recent policy decisions and the evolving direction of the city.
This city's first responders recognize that the city is at a critical juncture requiring open communication and collaboration between residents and public safety officials. The city has faced ongoing economic hardships to some degree caused by both a perceived and legitimate feeling from residents and visitors that the city is not safe. Members of the police and fire departments take this issue personally and this Coalition seeks to create actionable steps that public safety officials, residents, and stakeholders can pursue together to make real and lasting impacts on the safety of our community.

Single Stairwell Construction Policy
New building codes permitting single-stairwell construction will change fire operations and increase complexity in a critical situation, while also creating risk by reducing escape routes for occupants.
